Origin ID vs Edge ID

How HesedVid Handles Playback

When you upload a video, there are two IDs you should be aware of:

  1. The Origin ID. This is what you use to take actions on a video like deletion or get details.
  2. The Edge ID. This is what you add to the video player

Why This Matters

The Edge ID the only ID which should be exposed to your customers. With an Edge ID, you have fine-grained control of your playback.

Revoke an Edge ID any time. Make an Edge ID which requires a signed URL. Make one Edge ID only accessible from a given domain.

Your First Asset ID

When you create an asset, both an asset ID and an edge ID are created.

If your video is public, the Edge ID is ready to be used for playback.

Streaming with a public Edge ID is simple. Add it to your video player.

Restricting Playback

Check out the guide on private videos here.

For other restrictions, like domain restrictions, read our guide on new Edge IDs.

Converting your asset from public to private

Looking to convert your asset from public to private? Revoke the public Edge ID and make a new one. No need to re-upload a video.

To do this, read our guide on new Edge IDs.
